ONE SUMMER - Our Origin Story.

Every chapter of life has an origin story, an experience that led us to a decision or a place. The start of ONE SUMMER is no different and whilst we are driven by beautiful products as our passion it is equally matched by our heart for people and enabling them to live their best lives.

We love, love, love product but sometimes struggled to find product that was right for us. Our difference is that we are maybe not your average customer, you see we have started this adventure of ONE at 14 and 12 and this blog will give all those that read it an inside view of our highs and lows, with probably not too much filter. We think its better to show the real story. Don't get me wrong I love Instagram, facebook, Tik Tok and other Social Media sources, but we also see that it can give a version of life that is somehow not the full story. People will sometimes feel the same about our instagram, but when we started working on ONE with some industry experts we made a point of the fact that we wanted to bring joy to people, we wanted to bring a feeling of summer in all we do.

We are two sisters originally from the UK, but now living on the Bayside of Melbourne. I am Daisy, the older sister (I would say wiser but Matilda will read this and its probably not exactly true!). Like so many families we have been touched by mental health issues and we want to do something about it. With our brother we have been brought up in a family of between 5-8 depending on how many Grandparents or International students are with us, the children of a mother who is a primary school teacher and a father who has worked with a few beauty brands. We have long had an understanding of the challenges some people face as my father was General Manager of Thankyou, a social enterprise here in Melbourne, giving us first hand experience of those in greater need than ourselves.

Closer to home we have had members of our family face huge challenges with mental health, and this became our overriding motivation in starting ONE. Put simply we want to make a success out of our passion for beauty products to bring the best out of people's natural beauty and so that we can fund mental health support programmes. We have set up ONE to give 1% of revenue to Youth Mental Health programmes. We believe that business should be the foundation of change and that teenagers and twenty somethings would want to be able to make a choice.

But we also recognise that we will only achieve our goal if we make great product and run a smart business, which is probably where Dad and some of his friends come in.

When Dad was GM at Thankyou there were many great quotes on the wall, but one stuck with Matilda and I, which was:

Rule 1: Make Great Product

Rule 2: Never Use A Good Cause To Sell An Average Product

Rule 3: Never break rule 2

There were loads of great quotes in that office and it was such an inspiring environment, even for us as children. We used to love going in to work with Dad when we could. But for now we will start with that rule and our commitment to you, we wont be making any average product! The next blog will tell you a bit more about what we want ONE to stand for and what it should speak about, but now that you know we are here and a little bit more about these two sisters we hope you will join us for the ride to see where this thing goes.

Thanks for reading.

Daisy
